Ordo Franciscanus Saecularis (OFS)

Holy Dormition / St Clare Fraternity meets the first Sunday of each month at Holy Dormition Friary.

What are you looking for? (John 1:38)

Do you feel a restless stirring within you? Do you feel that you want to come closer to God and get to know Him better in the world while remaining a lay person?

If your answer is “yes,” perhaps God is nudging you to serve Him and to be enriched spiritually while you continue to fulfill your responsibilities as a parent, grandparent or a single person living in the world.

Francis and the Franciscan Order

In the 13th century, in the town of Assisi, Italy there lived a young man named John Bernadone, who led a good, yet shallow and worldly life as a merchant’s son. The restless stirring of his heart drove Francis the merchant son to follow the Master, the Lord of All, rather than the servant of riches or military glory.

Led by God’s inspiration, he renounced his wealth, gave himself to living the Gospel Life and began to preach the Good News. But his example was founded on an intimate relationship with the Lord and a desire to live the gospel message and spread it throughout the world.

People of all walks of life sought to follow Francis, inspired by his example. Like Francis, they were willing to rebuild the church not only with stones but also by allowing God to rebuild their hearts, entering into a life of peace and repentance.

The Secular Franciscan Order (OFS) is an Order for ordinary lay persons who wish to follow in the footprints of Jesus Christ in a manner inspired by the example of St. Francis.
